Just a note from a working stiff in Atlanta, GA who is fed up with the
way her office inanely celebrates each and every Hallmark holiday. Get
this, this Friday, is freakin' National Bosses' Day! Can you believe
this? What a bunch of crap! Forgive my language, but this just sticks
in
my craw! Isn't every bloody day of the year Bosses' Day??!!?? Who makes
this stuff up? My office mates want to host a sort of low-key
bagel and coffee thing on Friday. What can I say to diplomatically get
out
of it without offending folks, without getting into a long, protracted
spiel
about my politics which won't resonate with my coworkers who are into
this?
Ignore it? Make a big stink? I'm expected to set-up and split the costs
of
the breakfast. Gimme a break. Sometimes the world of work throws the
most
unbelievably idiotic curveballs my way. Any suggestions?
Alex I couldn't agree with you more--every day is "bosses' day" in this country! The question is: Where and how do we begin to turn this situation around? I know I'd like to start with you and people who have your attitude. It seems to me that the big question for you is how far you think you can go with your fellow workers. |
