Attorneys are among the strangest and nastiest people in the world. They preach to their clients about what they cannot do in the workplace but
they do those same things all the time! Attorneys know how to use the law to
their advantage. That is, when they admit that there is a law they should
follow.
I like to get into the office early in order to read several newspapers and keep up with current events. I thought I was doing my boss a favor by answering the phones before 9:00 a.m. while I was reading my paper. However, over the last several years, my boss has started to meet me at the door at 7:30 a.m. with "urgent" projects that need to be done right away! So, not only am I now starting work at 7:30 a.m. and working through my lunch hour, but he has even started that few minutes past 5:00 p.m. stuff -- he's got me finishing projects at least 10 minutes after and sometimes even 1/2 hour after. Do I get paid for this? NO. He has let me know that he looks extremely unfavorably on putting in for overtime and there is no such thing as comp. time. When I tried to stop coming in early, he also let me know that he didn't appreciate that either! Unfortunately, I need the money. I have gone on several interviews to see if I could find a more reasonable job but even though I believe I have an extremely good resume, I have definitely "felt" a chilling of the air because of my age -- so much for a protected age group! I am only 47, but I feel like I am 100. |
