I'm moving it to "thread" better [moderator] Obviously, you are one of THEM. There are many hardworking, caring, dedicated employees in the world who are giving their best each and every day. Many of them go that extra mile, often not for their employers, but because they give a damn about how they affect the world we all share. But management by negative reinforcement and suspicion instead of encouragement and trust is as tremendously destructive and counterproductive as it seems to be popular. I have heard so many people say so many times that all they are looking for is some positive recognition that they count as individuals, as team members, and as human beings. Build self-esteem and trust, empower your people, let each of them know they are vital and appreciated, and LISTEN to them, take an interest in who they are, what their lives are about. Managers who can do this, who can unite their people and lead them, are successes. Managers who fail to do this doom themselves, because all the good people will leave for better jobs (and they ARE out there), leaving the dead weight to fulfill all the negative expectations that the boss communicates as his standards of measurement.
