I can understand how powerless your friend (and you) must feel. But you should know that you have a lot of firepower on your side. Just this week, the EEOC announced that it was fining the Mitsubishi Corporation $34 million for having allowed an atmosphere of harassment to exist in its Normal, Illinois auto plant. That's a whole lot of money, to be shared by the victims of the harassment and to serve as a lesson to the harassers, at every level of the organization.

A couple of months ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same sex harassment was also illegal under the law. This was an important breakthrough in rights of male and female workers in this country, men and women who are often abused by their employers, their supervisors, and even, I hate to say, their fellow workers. This sort of harassment is not only immoral and unjust, it is now illegal.

So, get out the phone book and find the nearest office of the EEOC. That's the place to start. Good luck!
