: Personally, I've had my good days and my bads. But, I make more money as a cocktail waitress on the weekends than I do at my full time position (which happens to require a Bachelors degree). Waitresses are no longer always low end, though we do sometimes get the short end of the stick. The customers who treat me like dirt are few and far between actually, but that is probably because I serve drinks to a bunch of people who have already been drinking for two hours or more. I mean, why on earth would they complain?

: I do see your point John. I have friends who are working at franchised family rest. like Perkins and Denny's and they are MISERABLE. I guess I don't know what it feels like because I work with a live band playing, maybe a 5 or 6 hour shift (this is enough remember I work full time elsewhere), and most of my customers are lively and fun, and not the least bit exasperated if I confuse their order...infact tonight I messed up and the guy not only took the drink I brought but tipped me pretty well claiming he would never have thought to order this but it looked good. So he was drunk as could be, but it sure beats being yelled at for a little screw up. That sort of thing happens all the time

: : Marian,
: : All of us have known how hard waitressing is, has been, and will be. Due to the nature of the work, the abuse, long hours, sometimes thankless efforts, it is considered to be a low end job and treated that way. I have met many people who wanted to pickup part time work, performed the waitressing jobs. We, as a country eat out at restaurants more than anyone else in the world, but the servers are treated ugly. I wonder if all the waitresses went on strike, what the people would do...cater the food? ha! dont think so for very long! Thanks for your help Marian.
