Hi, after finally quitting waiting tables forever, I am so full of stories! I too, am writing an article on the "joys" of waitressing, But want to hear other people's gripes as well. The big problem here in California is the European tourists who think the tip is included, or even better, don't "believe in tipping". I mean c'mon! Fine--then I don't believe in bringing you your smelly food! I can't stand some people. Cocktailing is much easier, everyone's happy to see a tray of drinks coming their way... Anyway, more frustration where that came from, good luck! D: Camilla, : Do I have some gripes! I've been waitressing for 8 long years. I've worked in 6 different restaurants. I have so many stories! Basically, I really cannot wait to graduate from college next year so I can never work in the service industry again. People SUCK!!! They are rude, condesending, cheap, demanding, impatient, and so annoying!! My favorite stupid person story is when I worked at the Olive Garden Italian restaurant. A woman looked me straight in the eye and said, "I want to know if there is meat in the meat sauce." Umm, gee, maybe with the name meat sauce, it does!! That is just the tip of the iceberg! I have plenty more to share, if you're interested. : Sincerely, Lili DeVaney : : : Marian, : : : All of us have known how hard waitressing is, has been, and will be. Due to the nature of the work, the abuse, long hours, sometimes thankless efforts, it is considered to be a low end job and treated that way. I have met many people who wanted to pickup part time work, performed the waitressing jobs. We, as a country eat out at restaurants more than anyone else in the world, but the servers are treated ugly. I wonder if all the waitresses went on strike, what the people would do...cater the food? ha! dont think so for very long! Thanks for your help Marian.
: : : : : : : I know my sister waitresses have stories to tell, angst to vent---How is... (truncated)
