The modern workplace! The market uber alles! Eileen, I'll bet your "managers" say that you "working stiffs" just don't care enough to do your job.

Do you have any suggestions for Eillen? What can we do to make the wookplace sane? I think that answer can only come from us; not from those with their head up their bottom line.

Several years ago, I read a book called MODERN MADNESS: etc (can't find the book on my shelf -morst of my good ones circulate and don't come back). One of it's key points was that in the modern workplace, mentally healthly people show symptoms of illness, while the "warped folks" seem healthy.
: I am 47, have been a nurse for 28 years. We used to take care of sick people, now it's bottom-line first. I work in a for-profit nursing home, and with the new Medicare rules, the corporation is cutting staff. I have over twice as many residents to care for as I did six months ago, and I am too old and tired for this crap. I want to take care of people, use my assessment and healing skills, and not just be a robot pill-pusher. I understand from my friends in the profession it is no better in non-profit hospitals. I think I'd rather go clean dog pens, because then you could at least see where you had been. Yes, I'm burned out, yes I need a career change. All the exercise and meditation I have done doesn't help. I am tired of working to pay the investors, rather than provide a service first.
