The company I worked for did not want to extend the work it did with its many customers. I did. I continued to contract with the original company for 4 years before cutting them loose. I think the key to freelancing is the commitment to "selling" no matter how much work you have. One fifth of your time must be set aside for "marketing". This is through thick or thin - in good times and in bad times- no matter how much work you have. Good contracts do disappear. An editor goes elsewhere and the new person wants "her people" to do the writing. Good luck!
: I'd like to start a freelance business and I'm thinking that I could quit this job but convince them to hire me on a contract basis. This would tide me over until I find other clients. Anybody gone this route? Got suggestions? : I appreciate it! Follow Ups
